This week there was a critique of work in progress for the mid-term, lots of good work that I look forward to posting on the class blog ;)
Also this week Marshall introduced the "vulgar" work of Albrecht Durer, with all the cross contours to last you a lifetime.

"FIELD TRIP: Timken Mueseum of Art in Balboa Park, San Diego"

This week we got a chance to get out of a physical classroom and go to beautiful San Diego to the Museum with Marshall and fellow class mates that were able to make it. At this museum we paid particular attention to The Cranberry Harvest, Island of Nantucket by Eastman Johnson an American genre painter, 1824-1906. There was a lot to learn and dissect from the piece that steals the show at the museum.

Oct 5th
"Escher & Key: Virtuosity Fast &Slow"
This week in class it seemed as though everyone gasped as Marshall explained how Escher worked without today's modern programs. Both Heinrich Kley and Escher had master knowledge of anatomy and perspective but in sharp contrast to each other; Kley worked very fast with strong energy while Escher was very meticulous.

"Daumier and Sweet: Scribbling to Discover"
This week Marshall shared with us the concept of not always knowing what the finished piece will look like, and some artists go into a "play mode" to create a fluid and interesting piece.
